Chiefla Stables owner & Trainer - Alicia McClelland We are a 34 acre farm , located in Kenbridge, Virginia

Alicia has been training professionally since 2012 , Alicia competed in and won 2 Colt starting competitions held in 2013 and 2014 . Mostly specializing in colt starting and "problem solving" over the last 10 years and we have always stood out by offering trail riding for exposure and more miles. Alicia has competed and won several trail and obstacle challenges over the years , anything from fun, silly obstacles showing off the horses willingness and confidence, to advanced Ranch courses focusing on manuevers and precision .
Since 2022 we have started showing Ranch rail, Ranch trail, & Ranch pattern classes , as we start gearing our training more towards performance , Alicia has taken 2023 as an opportunity to further her education in performance horses , so we can now have more to offer you and your horses. Alicia's son, Kaden McClelland shows his horse Krymsuns Lil Piggie in ranch and also enjoys working the training horses when he has the chance.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to join Alicia’s team. About Our Training

About our training methods - Alicia's start to training was all methods learned from John Lyons certified trainers - continuing education over the years under 3 of John Lyons children, Brandi, Michael, and Josh Lyons,  Through lessons and clinics , so we base a lot of our training around rein foot communication - soft, willing horses, confident , and responsive . Alicia has also trained under and continued education , training with jumper /eventing/ dressage trainers , reining and ranch trainers, horsemanship trainers, cow work, and more... always continuing education through lessons and clinics under great trainers as often as she can to help improve her skills so she can do better for each and every horse and owner . Alicia trains in a rope halter as well as a bosal or snaffle when starting from the ground through the foundation work. We focus on teaching confident , willing horses through ground work, softening exercises on the ground , body control, obstacles to teach confidence and willingness , trails for miles and exposure , which we have access to trails with cattle , beautiful creek crossings, our dogs often ride with us, gravel road exposure and extremely light traffic exposure due to where we live . We like to incorporate throwing ropes off horses and dragging things to get them extra confident with things moving above and around them, body control consists of learning to carry themselves in the speed and direction we've put them into on a loose rein , hind end control, shoulder control , transitional control , leg yielding, side passing , stopping , backing, moving off rein and leg , working towards carrying themselves correctly without overly  high head sets or hollow backs. Canter departures , and confidently maneuvering through obstacles.
